Black Tech Friday
Having been overseas for over ten years now, I can only watch the mayhem of Black Friday from a distance via the internet and CNN. Honestly, I don’t miss those days – and they do seem so long ago. What’s interesting for me are the items that are catching headlines now about the “must haves.” Back in the day, when my kids were much younger, it was “Tickle-me-Elmo” and “Furbies”. Now, it’s the tech junkies that lead the way.
This year, the winner is Microsoft Kinect. Annually, the tech entertainment industry revolutionizes the consoles and capabilities… and I thought the Wii was so cool. The Kinect as sold 2.5 million units in the last month! Watch this link to see how the Kinect totally eliminates the need for the awkward hand held controller.
However, the Kinect is being chased by two big competitors: the PlayStation 3 and Apple’s IPad. The up and down sides – PS3 has added the Move (similar to the Wii), but buyers are shying away as just the controllers are $79.99. And the upside of the IPad is that is has been discounted by a hundred bucks. Hmmm – what does say about the demand and quality of the product? Fortunately, there are many choices and options. Unfortunately, for most people, finances are limited – so choices have to be made. And with the impulse buying of 5AM on Black Friday, let’s hope all those generous parents have made the right choices for their ScreenAgers. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
