As I was watching the Dan Pink: Drive video I was side tracked by the other RSA Animates on the sidebar. I was not motivated to stick with the video so I clicked on one Animate that caught my attention as we, the LS, are discussing Moral Intelligence, Character Education and Michele Borba, the author of the book.
Empathic Civilisation, by Jeremy Rifkin:
The statement that I liked was that we are “soft-wired to experience another’s plight as if we are experiencing it ourselves.” When we react to a situation we react as well. When you gag because someone else is gagging. This is drive 1, to belong. With this scientifically proven mirror neuron research we can use the knowledge to expand and reach people all over the world in need: Haiti, Japan, Libya…We are soft-wired to be sociable not aggressive and affectionate not violent.
If we do not allow toddlers to play with each other and instead hand them the VINCI, “a new class in early learning systems exclusively designed for children 4 years and under” and iPads at 5 years old how will they learn empathy, compassion and moral inteliigence?
