iPads, my internal debate continues

Computer Lab on PhotoPeach

I loved the ease of using PhotoPeach to create a quick slideshow of my students.

With the idea that we will be using iPads in the kindergarten classroom in the near future, I emailed Kim Cofino (Always Learning) who works at  Yokohama International School in Japan to ask what they were doing with their program and she gave me some great teacher links. I checked out Zoe Page’s blog and was impressed with the work that her students are doing.  I am encouraged to see that it is being used for more than Angry Birds, letter tracing, and matching games. Another resource was Tasha Cowdy’s blog.

I worry, I know, too much about the social impacts. The culture of the students here is one that lacks social skills to begin with so isolating them with technology makes me nervous. Some of the links Kim shared show kids working in small groups, individually, and with a partner. The same way they would on any project left to their choice.

She also generously shared her bookmarks with me so I have more homework to do.

I have gained many insights and look forward to using some of them with my classes. Know I just need more time!

One Response to iPads, my internal debate continues

Glad the resources were helpful! You can always contact Zoe and Tasha too – they are super and always willing to help. Take your time and explore as much as you can. I’m sure actually having the iPads in your hands will help everything make more sense than just thinking about what it could look like. Good luck!
