Family, Finances and Photos
Being an international educator for over 12 years has provided me an enormous amount of adventure and excitement. However, living overseas also presents a variety of obstacles which have been eased and/or eliminated because of the internet. More specifically, living halfway around the world and existing 15+ hours ahead of anyone I need to speak with – family, financial institutions, etc… – the web has become a lifeline. The web serves as my umbilical cord to the mother ship – the US – and provides me sense of normalcy. Access to family/friends via Skype, Facebook and Twitter enables me to keep up to date and informed at the click of a button. Not only that, but the net provides 24/7 access to our banks so I can manage our financial matters.
But, enough about the obvious, what other uses does the internet provide? The internet allows me to explore the globe, experiencing new cultures and ideas. The web permits me the opportunity to view the past, present and future through a variety of lenses and perspectives. I use the web to reach out and gather new ideas to use in my classroom and to find new strategies to implement as a basketball coach. Well, I guess these are obvious, too. I guess that’s the point of this blog – I use the internet for everything I do – personal, entertainment and education. Daily, I’m a hyperlink away from something new and adventurous.
