| Goal: Students will have generated a 'bank' of geography terms that they can access on line, which will clearly show and explain each term. Role: Students select a geography term to research from the geography unit. On a Microsoft Word document they are to layout a heading, a definition, an example that clearly shows the feature, a world map and three examples at different locations around the globe. Audience: Classmates, other students in G7 classes, teachers, parents, internet users. Situation: Students work independently to research to geographical ter. They must be able to use Microsoft Word, research on teh internet and use Samrt Recording to complete the task. Product Performance: The completed product will be a Smart Recording featuring their term. It will uploaded onto YouTube and available as a class resource - as well as beyond. Extension:Students view, peer assess and comment on each others work. The recording is also downloaded onto individual blogs as a wiki for easy access by classmates. | Explain: Students explain the physical attributes of their geography term and provide clear explanations and examples Apply: Students apply their research skills, downloading of images, creative inserting of features such as WordArt, labelling, and clear concise oral explanation. Interpret: Students select a range of images to show the possibilities of each feature. Perspective: Students are free to show the images that represent an feature while ensuring it is true to the definition. Self-Knowledge: Students reach a comfort level with the process of combining different programs and skills, while also effectively communication a product. Empathize: Students appreciate the range of skills and language abilities of each other as some work in a second, or third, language and manage to clearly communicate their geography term. They will be aware of the time it takes to make one recording and the wealth of information they ahve generated as a class. |
| Lesson Notes: This task takes 2-3 lessons to complete. It requires a knowledge of Microsoft Word, use of the internet for research, an understanding of Smart Recording and the ability to speak clearly and concisely. It is completed at the beginning of the geography unit and is intended as a resource to support other aspects of the unit such as the creation of an imaginary island. | |
