Stage 2 – Assessment Evidence
GRASPS TaskSix Facets of Understanding
Goal: Develop and implement a social action project based on researched social issues in the world.

Role: The teacher will embed technology in this unit and facilitate research.

Audience: Fourth grade students

Situation: Students may work individually or in interest base groups.

Product Performance: You will create a commercial, poster, letter, or glogster to persuade others to take action on the related issue.

Extension: Students can continue by finding ways they can get directly involved in issues in their city or country.
Explain-Students will use the wiki and books to identify and explain various issues in the world.

Interpret- Students will identify issues in their own life and the books they read. They will discuss how their experiences are the same or different then their own. They will research reasons for the issues.

Apply- Students will create their own social action project. They will use their knowledge of issues to find a focus for the project.

Perspective- We will encourage others around the world to take part in adding issues to the wiki in order to develop a global perspective. They will tell where they are from and the issues they face.

Self-Knowledge-Students will be aware of what issues face them and which do not. They will be aware of what they do not understand and why that understanding is hard.

Empathize- Students will be sensitive to the issues people face in the world. They will share thoughts and feelings about the issue on the wiki.
Lesson Notes:
This is a project that will include reading, writing, and social studies.
1. Students will be introduced to social issues during a social issues unit. They will join book clubs about books with issues of specific interest. As they read they will use the graffiti wall to record issues that come up, ideas about the issues, and visuals that come to mind when thinking of the issue.

2. During writing students will be learning how to write to persuade. This will help students develop the final product in the project.

3. Throughout the unit students will find an interest in one particular issue which they will then research further.

4. They will decide on the tool the will use to persuade others to take action on the chosen issue.
