This is just a very short follow-up to a previous blog, where I wrote about the future of online education. An organization called K-12 is already offering online education for all grades, and I do wonder if this is a preview of the future of education.
So, as I was surfing the web recently, I found this advertisement across the top of my screen. Interesting that K-12 is already engaging in promotion. Their target, for now, is toward teens who do not fit well in traditional schools. In my mind, this seems like a very appropriate audience. Clearly, classrooms with walls do not work for everyone, so if they can accomplish more and learn more via distance learning, then that seems quite appropriate.
Eventually, however, I believe, more and more traditional students will also move toward online learning to some degree. Most likely, blended learning will be the most common method. But as the internet generation realizes their ability to learn at their own pace, to select courses of their own interests, and to learn from the security of their own computer, then full online learning is likely to become even more popular. Just think of it as education via Facebook!
